1903 Pirates Uniform
There is a lot of memorabilia displayed around PNC Park. This vintage uniform jersey is made of wool. The high collar was supposed to protect players’ necks from the sun, but it must have been hotter than heck.
The plaque underneath says:
The Uniform Design Of The Three-time National League Champion Pirates Was Awed As Much As The Pinstripe Yankee Uniform Of Later Years
Children often think the little pocket was for a cell phone. Obviously, it wasn’t - not in 1903. It was meant to hold chewing tobacco.
