Phil Hughes
April 2009 - Phil Hughes on the mound for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Hughes, with the Minnesota Twins this year, fell just one out short of meeting an incentive that would have given him a $500,000 bonus.  The Twins offered to give him the money anyway, but he refused to accept it.  (!)
Hughes had 186 strikeouts and just 16 walks this season.  His 11.6/1 K/BB ratio is the best in MLB history.

Chien-Ming Wang
March 2014 - Chien-Ming Wang on the mound.
Wang, who agreed to a minor league deal with the Reds this season, has opted out.  His original opt-out date was June 30, but the Reds convinced him to postpone it to the all-star break.  They said they might call him up for the doubleheader July 8.
Well, the Reds didn’t call him up, and not surprisingly, Wang has opted out.

In the Dugout
March 23, 2008 - In the dugout of Ed Smith Stadium.
From left to right: then-prospect Drew Stubbs, former player and current front office staffer Eric Davis, former Yankees first baseman Andy Phillips, and super utility man Ryan Freel.
The Reds have since moved to Arizona, and Ed Smith Stadium has been renovated for the new tenants, the Baltimore Orioles.
Eric Davis is the only one in the photo who is still with the Reds.  Drew Stubbs made it to the big leagues, then was traded to Cleveland, then to the Rockies.  Andy Phillips played in Japan, then retired from playing to coach at his alma mater, Alabama.  And Ryan Freel died a year ago today.
Rest in peace, Freelie.
